Gun powder and its effects on us?
What has gunpowder effected - WW1/2 guncrime etc - and how does that effect us now/ what would it be like without it? Gun powder and its effects on us?
Gunpowder (black powder) has not been used for some time now in weaponry, as it was replaced by cordite. Gunpowder is now only used in fireworks (really just returning to its roots!)
Therefore, if it ceased to exist, nobody would notice any difference in the world.

It also has dried milk, so it will add a different flavor. For frosting you could probably try it, just don't add as much sugar or milk as the recipe normally calls for (if it does so). You might also need to add more cocoa mix that you would cocoa powder because the flavor is not as concentrated.

I was under the impression it did (certain websites claim it does) and went ahead and bought some. But I just realized the container itself states no such thing. Which seems weird if it does contain minerals. I'm a little upset coz that's the whole reason I bought it. Does anyone know?

Also when you see Willie Wonka biting the little flower cup, that was hardened wax and he spit it out right after the take.

Sorry to say that there is no way baking powder will still work after that much time--so, it's a good thing it's cheap. It lasts for only a year (some say 6 months) after it's been opened.
I always try to remember to get a permanent marker and mark (on the plastic lid of the baking powder canister) the month and year that I opened it so that I have an idea how old it is. But if you forget, never fear, just add a half-teaspoon or so to a cup or small bowl of hot water. If it bubbles and fizzes, it will still work. If it doesn't, you'll have to get some new baking powder, because the old powder will not do the job. Good luck with your recipe.

If you are stuck over weekend and cannot find fresh baking powder you can substitute with half amount of baking soda. Sift thoroughly with the flour. Evidently you don't do much baking!

You will see ta\hat some people think it can last 18 months but you will never get the proper rising in your baking when it has sat that long.

Okay I bought the L'oreal (?) Bare Naturale powdered foundation the other day, and I started breaking out like crazy. The thing is, it's only on one side of my face. Way back when, they likely did use powder but black powder is very flammable and actually explodes and doesn't burn like modern propellants.
I wouldn't try grinding or smashing up powder. Black powder is sensitive to compression and can explode. Happens during manufacture process in the plants that make it. That's why they make it wet first , dry it in sheet form and granulate after. Roll caps for toy pistols explode because they are compressed minute amounts of very fine black powder. I don't think you'll listen if I tell you to 'stop before you hurt yourself'.
I didn't when I did that as a kid, so lets try to keep you in one piece:
1.Don't even think about trying to grind black powder.
(Even the pro's in industry have accidents doing this and allow for them.)
The charge of a solid fuel rocket must be formed into a single slow
burning grain, or you get a bomb, not a rocket.
To form %26amp; pack your charge, get wood alcohol or another dry, (waterless),
non-polar solvent. Make a thick paste with your powder.
Form that into your charge, and dry it well..
Inspect the charge carefully.
If there are voids or cracks, it's dangerous.
Start over.
Use a long fuse or electric ignition and be well back, and behind
something solid when it goes off.
If you HAVE to watch, use a mirror.
The finer the powder the faster it will burn.

If you have oily skin wear powder because it will absorb the oil. If you have oily skin and you still want to use a liquid foundation, make sure it's oil free (like Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation or MAC Studio Fix).
If you have dry skin wear a liquid because it will add shine and luminosity to your skin and won't wear off.

I am a huge mineral makeup advocate. It is a powder, and some people don't like that, however just blend a squirt of your facial moisturizer with it for a great liquid foundation that's good for your skin! Traditional liquid foundations have all kinds of nasty ingredients and chemicals, plus most animal test which is just awful.

no it's not too young, but if your skin is still clear then i would suggest just using a moisturizer. it'll help your skin a lot better than foundation will. but if you still want foundation, i would greatly suggest bare minerals. it is on the expensive side, but it's very healthy for your skin. just look it up on google and go to their site. then have tons of before and after pics that will convince you and your mom that it's a good choice. i kno ulta carries it, but i think you can also order it online.

I'm a beauty specialist at Kohl's and the American Beauty mineral powder is extremely light. They oxidize a little bit so I'd recommend getting a shade lighter than your normal foundation color. For the most part, they're yellow based but are so sheer, they'll work for cool as well depending on the depth of your undertones. They do contain bismuth oxychloride which many mineral powders carry but also many people have been known to react to. If you're looking for medium to heavier coverage such as acne scarring, pigmentation, etc. make sure you use a concealer because this is almost like a setting powder because of the sheerness but it is very good for skin because it won't clog pores, there are no fragrances and they are made by the Estee Lauder companies.Who has used American beauty mineral powder?

There are many good fungicides to use to combat this disease; I think the best one is made by Ortho and is called Funginex. It contains Triforine. You need to spray weekly for at least three weeks. If you're a strictly organic grower, there are organic fungicides, or you can make your own with baking soda. Mix two tablespoons of baking soda with water and spray on the leaves. You will probably have to spray more often, but it is organic. However, if the roses don't have AT LEAST a half day of full sun and don't have good air circulation (for example, they shouldn't be planted in a corner or in a walled in area), you will be fighting these problems all season long.

I think I read something a long time ago that you couldn't use it on babies anymore ... especially baby girls .... but I have a baby boy, and in this heat I think it would help keep his nether regions dry if i could use some powder on him.Why can't you use baby powder on babies anymore?

Is talc that's found in powder foundation really hazardous to health?
I recently read somewhere that talc could cause lung cancer...Is that true? My other choice would be foundation that contains parabens, which are suspected to cause breast cancer...It seems all creams, shampoos, makeup contain all these weird stuff...Is talc that's found in powder foundation really hazardous to health?

Heres the thing. Most of the 'bad' ingredients in makeup are bad for you, yes, but not nessesarily in theform they are in makeup. Like talc and that sort of thing can cause cancer if you seriously inhale it. Applied to your face, it's probably not going to do much damage. And yes, parabens can mimic estrogen in the body, which is why they are believed to be linked to breast cancer. It's a simple fact that chemicals aren't good for your body, and usually, once we find out just how harmful these sorts of things are, it's too late.
So is it a good idea to use tons and tons of synthetic products? No, so get into the habit of reading labels, and choosing brands which use fewer chemicals (there are LOTS of brands now that are all or mostly organic/naturally sourced, and that don't contain as many chemicals. Even 'regular' drugstore brands like Aveeno have really good moisturizers with only 6 or 7 ingredients in them.) If your favourite, can't-live-without-it foundation contains parabens, choose moisturizers, eyeshadows, eyeliners, etc that don't (they exist, trust me! Parabens are in alot of things, but not everything). If you aren't picky about your shampoo, choose an organic one. Make healthier choices where and when you can. But between makeup and cell phones and pollution and fatty foods, something is going to give you cancer eventually, you know what I mean? I think we need to be responsible about the products we use and the food we eat, but there's also alot that's out of our immediate control.

There is no such thing as whole milk that is powdered. When powdered milk is made they remove the fats.
Only non-fat, or skim milk is made into powdered milk. Fats are not very stable, and do not have a long shelf life. Fats go rancid quickly.
So to avoid powdered milk going rancid, the fats have been removed.
Baby formula is of course the only exception. Infants and toddlers MUST have the fats for proper brain growth/development.
If you wish to stock up on a powdered milk product with the best taste and a stable shelf life, then ';Morning Moo'; is THE top product.

They sell it at most supermarkets.Its just dried milk .Its usually near the coffee/tea shelf and sometimes by the home cooking aisle.Sainsbury do dried skimmed and dried whole milk.If you cant find it ask an assistant because they will know exactly where to look.If its for a recipe dried skimmed will do the job just as well as whole milk.asp hosting

Whatever you do, AVOID ALL ';SOY'; products for your boy. Soy is a natural estrogen inhibitor, you don't want him 10feet fall and I'm sure you don't want him to develop 'man breasts'. Same thing with plastic tupperware, avoid it at all costs, use glass and don't microwave with plastic containers, the plastic release carbon chemicals that act as estrogen inhibitors also.

1 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
2 cups white sugar
1/2 cup vegetable oil
4 eggs
2 tsp vanilla (I never put that much in, I just add to taste)
2 cups all-purpose flour
2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup powdered sugar

The best you can do is to clean up your dog's ';area'; everyday and sprinkle some cayenne/red pepper powder on his stool. He'll start to avoid it and it won't hurt him any. My german shepherd/black lab was doing this and we didn't know it until he became ill from it and we took him to the vet.I need help. How do you get a dog to quit eating their stool. Also keep your yard as clean as possible. Pick up as soon as the dogs ';business'; is done. It's gross but this is what they do to mask their odour sometimes. Hope this helps :)

Stick with the FOR-BID powder. Use it for 5-7 days (1/2 a pack twice a day)....takes time to get through their system. Then you can start backing it off to once a day for a few days.
Someone had suggested if you get ACCENT (in the spice isle), it will give you the same results as DETER (another powder for this problem).

Between the two, whole food proteins always wins out. The only exception is immediately before and after workouts.
Whey protein is a fast uptake protein that is quickly absorbed by the body. This means that all of it's quickly available after consuming. Whole food proteins are more ';time released'; since it takes them longer for the body to break down. Fast uptake is great for before workouts to help reduce the catabolic effects, and after a workout for quick recovery, but not so great other times of the day.
For mornings and before bedtime, a mixed protein source is best (a mix of egg, whey and casein proteins for example). During the day, lean whole protein sources are the best (fish, chicken, lean beef, etc.). These give the body a more constant supply of protein to use.

Style: Indian Non-Vegetarian
3 tablespoon(s) oil
2 onion(s) grated
2 tablespoon(s) garlic paste
1 teaspoon(s) ginger paste
1 cup(s) yoghurt beaten till smooth
2 tomatoes grated or finely chopped
1 teaspoon(s) red chilli powder
2 teaspoon(s) coriander powder
1 teaspoon(s) cumin powder
陆 teaspoon(s) turmeric powder
salt and freshly milled pepper to taste
12 medium pieces (about 800 grams) of chicken
1 cup(s) hot water
1 teaspoon(s) curry powder or hot spice mix (garam masala) powder
finely chopped fresh coriander to garnish
Heat the oil in a heavy bottomed saucepan. Add the onions and fry for about 4 minutes or till rich golden brown.
Add the ginger-garlic paste and fry briefly till the raw smell goes away. Add the tomatoes and the yoghurt stirring briskly to avoid curdling. Fry for about 4 minutes or till oil separates.
Mix in the red chilli powder, coriander powder, cumin powder, turmeric powder, salt and pepper to taste. Increase the heat and add the chicken pieces. Fry for about 5 minutes or till the chicken is lightly browned.
Add the hot water and mix well. Bring to a boil. Cover and cook on very low heat for about 15 minutes or till chicken is well cooked and the oil has separated. Sprinkle the curry powder or hot spice mix (garam masala) and cover tightly for about 10-15 minutes for the aroma to blend well in the curry.
Serve hot garnished with coriander leaves.
TIPS:
Using clarified butter (ghee) makes this dish more flavorful.
Boneless chicken can be also used for this recipe. Reduce or halve the weight of chicken if using boneless. Rest of the ingredients remain the same. Reduce the cooking time of chicken.

2 pounds boneless skinless chicken breasts, cut into 1/2-inch chunks
1 teaspoon salt and pepper, or to taste
1 1/2 tablespoons vegetable oil
4 tablespoons curry powder
1/2 onion, thinly sliced
2 cloves garlic, crushed
1 (14 ounce) can coconut milk
1 (14.5 ounce) can stewed, diced tomatoes
1 (8 ounce) can tomato sauce
3 tablespoons sugar
Serves 6.
Season chicken pieces with salt and pepper.
Heat oil and curry powder in a large skillet over medium-high heat for two minutes. Stir in onions and garlic, and cook 1 minute more. Add chicken, tossing lightly to coat with curry oil. Reduce heat to medium, and cook for 7 to 10 minutes, or until chicken is no longer pink in center and juices run clear.
Pour coconut milk, tomatoes, tomato sauce, and sugar into the pan, and stir to combine. Cover and simmer, stirring occasionally, approximately 30 to 40 minutes.

Peppercorns - 1/4 tsp
Onions - 3, medium, chopped
Crushed Tomatoes - 1, 14 oz can
Garlic - 1 heaping tbsp, chopped
Ginger - 1 heaping tbsp, chopped
Salt - to taste
Red Chili Powder - 1/2 tsp
Turmeric Powder - 1/2 tsp
Garam Masala - 1tsp
Cumin Powder - 1 tsp
Corriander Powder - 1.5 tsp
Green Chili - to taste (optional)
Cilantro - for garnish, finely chopped
Method:
1. Wash the Chicken and drain the excess water well.
2. Heat a pan on medium heat.
3. Once hot, add in the Oil (hold back 1 tsp for later).
4. Allow it to heat up and add in Cloves, Peppercorns, Bay leaves and Green Cardamom.
5. Fry for about 30 seconds and then add in the Onions.
6. Add a little salt to experdite the cooking process. Mix well.
7. Cook for 3-5 minutes and add in the Ginger, Garlic and Green Chilis.
8. Cook and stir frequently. Allow the Onions to brown but not burn.
9. Add in the crushed tomatoes and cook until the oil starts seperating from the mixture. Stir frequently as tomatoes tend to burn quick.
10. Once the Oil starts seperating, turn off the flame and allow the masala to cool down a bit.
11. Blend the Masala into a smooth paste. Keep aside.
12. Heat the pan once agin and add in the balance of the Oil (1 tsp).
13. Once the Oil is hot, add in the Cinnamon Stick and the Black Cardamom.
14. Cook for 30 seconds and add in Turmeric Powder.
15. Mix and add in the Masala Paste.
16. Add Red Chili Powder, Coriander powder and Cumin Powder.

2 onion(s) grated
2 tablespoon(s) garlic paste
1 teaspoon(s) ginger paste
1 cup(s) yoghurt beaten till smooth
2 tomatoes grated or finely chopped
1 teaspoon(s) red chilli powder
2 teaspoon(s) coriander powder
1 teaspoon(s) cumin powder
陆 teaspoon(s) turmeric powder
salt and freshly milled pepper to taste
12 medium pieces (about 800 grams) of chicken
1 cup(s) hot water
1 teaspoon(s) curry powder or hot spice mix (garam masala) powder
finely chopped fresh coriander to garnish
Heat the oil in a heavy bottomed saucepan. Add the onions and fry for about 4 minutes or till rich golden brown.
Add the ginger-garlic paste and fry briefly till the raw smell goes away. Add the tomatoes and the yoghurt stirring briskly to avoid curdling. Fry for about 4 minutes or till oil separates.
Mix in the red chilli powder, coriander powder, cumin powder, turmeric powder, salt and pepper to taste. Increase the heat and add the chicken pieces. Fry for about 5 minutes or till the chicken is lightly browned.
Add the hot water and mix well. Bring to a boil. Cover and cook on very low heat for about 15 minutes or till chicken is well cooked and the oil has separated. Sprinkle the curry powder or hot spice mix (garam masala) and cover tightly for about 10-15 minutes for the aroma to blend well in the curry.
Serve hot garnished with coriander leaves.
TIPS:
Using clarified butter (ghee) makes this dish more flavorful.
Boneless chicken can be also used for this recipe. Reduce or halve the weight of chicken if using boneless. Rest of the ingredients remain the same. Reduce the cooking time of chicken.

1/2 cp honey
1/4 cp prepared mustard
3 Tbs butter melted
3 Tbs milk
2 tsp curry powder
1 tsp salt
1/8 tsp ground white pepper
1 (2 1/2- 3 lb broiler-fryer, cut up)
1/2 cup raisins
1/4 cup chopped pecans
1/4 cup shredded coconut
Combine honey, mustard, butter, milk, curry powder, salt, and pepper
in a small bowl; stir well. Dip chicken in curry mixture. Place chicken in a greased 12x8x2 inck baking dish. Reserve remaining curry mixture, and set aside.
Bake chicken at 350 for 1 hour, basting occasionally with reserved curry mixture. Remove chicken from oven; sprinkle with raisins, pecans, and coconut. 2 pounds boneless skinless chicken breasts, cut into 1/2-inch chunks
1 teaspoon salt and pepper, or to taste
1 1/2 tablespoons vegetable oil
4 tablespoons curry powder
1/2 onion, thinly sliced
2 cloves garlic, crushed
1 (14 ounce) can coconut milk
1 (14.5 ounce) can stewed, diced tomatoes
1 (8 ounce) can tomato sauce
3 tablespoons sugar
Serves 6.
Season chicken pieces with salt and pepper.
Heat oil and curry powder in a large skillet over medium-high heat for two minutes. Stir in onions and garlic, and cook 1 minute more. Add chicken, tossing lightly to coat with curry oil. Reduce heat to medium, and cook for 7 to 10 minutes, or until chicken is no longer pink in center and juices run clear.
Pour coconut milk, tomatoes, tomato sauce, and sugar into the pan, and stir to combine. Cover and simmer, stirring occasionally, approximately 30 to 40 minutes.

Water - 2 cups (approx)
Oil - 2 tbsp
Cinnamon stick - 2鈥硃c
Black Cardomom - 1
Cloves - 5
Green Cardamom - 2
Bay Leaf - 2
Peppercorns - 1/4 tsp
Onions - 3, medium, chopped
Crushed Tomatoes - 1, 14 oz can
Garlic - 1 heaping tbsp, chopped
Ginger - 1 heaping tbsp, chopped
Salt - to taste
Red Chili Powder - 1/2 tsp
Turmeric Powder - 1/2 tsp
Garam Masala - 1tsp
Cumin Powder - 1 tsp
Corriander Powder - 1.5 tsp
Green Chili - to taste (optional)
Cilantro - for garnish, finely chopped
Method:
1. Wash the Chicken and drain the excess water well.
2. Heat a pan on medium heat.
3. Once hot, add in the Oil (hold back 1 tsp for later).
4. Allow it to heat up and add in Cloves, Peppercorns, Bay leaves and Green Cardamom.
5. Fry for about 30 seconds and then add in the Onions.
6. Add a little salt to experdite the cooking process. Mix well.
7. Cook for 3-5 minutes and add in the Ginger, Garlic and Green Chilis.
8. Cook and stir frequently. Allow the Onions to brown but not burn.
9. Add in the crushed tomatoes and cook until the oil starts seperating from the mixture. Stir frequently as tomatoes tend to burn quick.
10. Once the Oil starts seperating, turn off the flame and allow the masala to cool down a bit.
11. Blend the Masala into a smooth paste. Keep aside.
12. Heat the pan once agin and add in the balance of the Oil (1 tsp).
13. Once the Oil is hot, add in the Cinnamon Stick and the Black Cardamom.
14. Cook for 30 seconds and add in Turmeric Powder.
15. Mix and add in the Masala Paste.
16. Add Red Chili Powder, Coriander powder and Cumin Powder.

CVA is a good one, i have 2 of them, my 1st was an Apollo stainless steel with no 11 primers and loaded with 90 grains of pyrodex,fairly accurate to 100 yards. i have upgraded to a magbolt that uses 209 shotgun primers and 150 grains of pyrodex pellets pushing a 240 grain 44caliber powerbilt bullet. It gives me more velocity, has a closed breech so no rain or water can get in, it's much like a bolt action rifle and it is fairly accurate out to around 150 yards, atleast thats as far as i've ever shot at anything. Both rifles are 50 caliber but I shoot the 44mag caliber bullet with a sabot. I highly reccomend you go with a 209 primer shotgun primer also as i have never had one misfire when using it.
Check out wal-mart and also with a muzzleloader being considered a primitive weapon, they can be had over the internet without an FFL in most states.

just remember one thing when you get it, is if you shoot it you gotta clean it as soon as possible, thats means same day or atleast within 48 hrs as blackpowder is very corrosive and will begin to eat your barrell right away,.
when you sight it in after every shot you will need to swab the bore then when your done you will need to break it completely down, clean it good and use a good anti seize grease on the breech plug,they can be a lot of fun and extend your hunting season by a couple weeks, So Good Luck, and be careful not to exceed the manufacture reccomended power load.What is a good balck powder gun that i can get at a store?
first off dont buy a new one go to a gun shop and buy a good used one that uses shotgun primers doesnt mater what brand and go shot it you can usaly pick one up for under a 100 $ that way if you dont like it your not out a lot of money you can always resell it
Just go for a Thompson Center then. Though i would highly suggest using 2f powder along with musket caps instead of no.11s. Deer hunting right?

Hey everyone! I am a vegan baker and I bake and cook a lot. I have a question on how to determine how much baking soda/ baking powder to use in a cake or in anything? Is there like a baking formula? Not a lot of recipe's ever call for more than 1 teaspoon. Some recipes call for half and half, it just depends.
