Gun powder and its effects on us?

What has gunpowder effected - WW1/2 guncrime etc - and how does that effect us now/ what would it be like without it? Gun powder and its effects on us?
Gunpowder (black powder) has not been used for some time now in weaponry, as it was replaced by cordite. Gunpowder is now only used in fireworks (really just returning to its roots!)

Therefore, if it ceased to exist, nobody would notice any difference in the world.

If you mean the effects of weapons such as guns, rifles (including automatic), bombs etc then hard to say what life would be like without them. The earliest ';gun'; in existence today has been dated to 1288, and obviously they were in use before this. Englands great victory over the French at Crecy in 1346 was the first use of cannon in European warfare.

Life with ';powder'; in one form or another has been evolving with us for a very long time, and has shaped our history. Gunpowder, and its successors, have been such a part of human existence that it is impossible to imagine a world that has evolved without its influence.

Jack Kelly wrote a really good book on the subject, entitled simply ';Gunpowder'; which is well worth reading if you are interested in this subject.

Can hot Cocoa mix count as cocoa powder in a recipe?

*Recipe is frosting....Can hot Cocoa mix count as cocoa powder in a recipe?
no b/c the cocoa mix is sweeter than the cocoa powderCan hot Cocoa mix count as cocoa powder in a recipe?
It also has dried milk, so it will add a different flavor. For frosting you could probably try it, just don't add as much sugar or milk as the recipe normally calls for (if it does so). You might also need to add more cocoa mix that you would cocoa powder because the flavor is not as concentrated.
no they are not the same

cocoa mix has other ingredients in it to make it an instant milk drink

it would add a weak chocolate flavor to your recipe

plain cocoa is pure chocolate and adds a more intense chocolate

flavor to your recipe
Usually cocoa mixes that just require adding water and they are ready to drink already have sugar and all that stuff to make it a nice drink. I belive for your frosting you need some plain cocoa.
It work because of the sugar that is added, pure cocoa powder has no sugar and is great for recipies, its more condensed.
no because cocoa mix has sugar in it. It will not react nor taste the same as

pure cocoa powder. Sorry

How do you make Voodoo or Zombie powder?

If you really want to know you have to travel to Haiti and speak with a Bokor. However you may encounter a little resistance. Bokors work in secret and dont like outsiders in thier buisness. Read the book ';The Serpent and the Rainbow'; by Wade Davis. The book is about his trips to try and find out what is in zombie powder. After you read that you probably will not want to find out.How do you make Voodoo or Zombie powder?
There's an herbal mix that can give a person the appearance of a zombie. It is related to Voodoo, but good luck on finding the recipie. How do you make Voodoo or Zombie powder?
Maybe you have to catch a zombie and grind him/her up? Just kidding. Just kidding.
i dont think I wanna know , and I dont think you need to know .
Tetrodotoxin is 10,000 times more deadly than cyanide and capable of killing an adult in doses as small as one milligram. Do you still wanna know?
Can you be more specific on what the purpose of the powder is? I don't care what you're up to with it, but I don't know any powders by those names and am wondering if maybe it's another name for a different powder recipe I know of.
voodoo as in hollywood movies is munjo jumbo...the real voodoo is a religion and if you wanna know what it is about check out this link: http://www.religioustolerance.org/voodoo鈥?/a>

  • Does Cover Girl TruBlend naturally luminous loose powder contain any minerals?

I was under the impression it did (certain websites claim it does) and went ahead and bought some. But I just realized the container itself states no such thing. Which seems weird if it does contain minerals. I'm a little upset coz that's the whole reason I bought it. Does anyone know?

Also, after how long should you throw away loose powder?Does Cover Girl TruBlend naturally luminous loose powder contain any minerals?
I saw on the Today show, that there should be an expired date , ck for year that should help etc, etc,

White powder in the giant mushrooms in the old version of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory?

???White powder in the giant mushrooms in the old version of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory?
Probably something made from powdered sugar. But it looked more like marshmallow creme to me.I read that in that scene, everything (literally....down to the ';teacup'; flowers) was edible. They did it to make it more realistic.White powder in the giant mushrooms in the old version of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory?
It was actually whipped cream. I was watching this movie one night and it was showing little pop up facts about the movie and they showed that the cream was really just that..... cream. Also when you see Willie Wonka biting the little flower cup, that was hardened wax and he spit it out right after the take.
My guess would be Marshmallow fluff or whipped cream. It was not a powder. The powder was on something else like a flower or something...
    powder?

    wasn't it gooey marshmallow stuff?
    Oompaloompa POO!!!
    powder or cream?

    either way:

if you want to view paradise,

    maybe it was cocaine? :O
Um, I'm pretty sure it was whipped cream.

Turn A Herb In To A Concintrated Powder?

Is It Possible To Turn A Herb Into A Powder That Will Dissolve Into Water Clearly? Or Any Way To Consintrate It Into A Dry Form. By This I Dont Mean Tinctures ( I Can Desolve It Into Everclear 190proof But I Hate The Teaste Of Alcohol) Can Any One Share Some Knowledge?Turn A Herb In To A Concintrated Powder?
You can extract chemicals from herbs. Alcohol is one of the best solvents used. They typically extract that sort of material in a particular type of distillation unit and then evaporate the alcohol. You would be left with a concentrate minus the alcohol. it can be dangerous because some chemicals in herbs are toxic and you are concentrating them. Dry powder is mostly plant material but if the herb is fairly concentrated, you could just dry it on very low heat and grind it into a powder. Tinctures usually just stabilize the compound. it probably isn't doing anything else. i would just dry it and powderize the herb like oregano.

Baking Powder. How long does it last?

I have had this baking powder since 1996 and I wonder if its expired since its only powder.Baking Powder. How long does it last?
It usually only last about a year. I would throw it out, you could mess up a good recipe with that old stuff!Baking Powder. How long does it last?
Sorry to say that there is no way baking powder will still work after that much time--so, it's a good thing it's cheap. It lasts for only a year (some say 6 months) after it's been opened.

I always try to remember to get a permanent marker and mark (on the plastic lid of the baking powder canister) the month and year that I opened it so that I have an idea how old it is. But if you forget, never fear, just add a half-teaspoon or so to a cup or small bowl of hot water. If it bubbles and fizzes, it will still work. If it doesn't, you'll have to get some new baking powder, because the old powder will not do the job. Good luck with your recipe.
i would definatly get a new one.. wayyyyy outdated, there should be an expiration date on it someplace.. which is probably about 10 yrs ago :P
there should be an expiration date on it, but you shouldn't use the baking powder that's been around for the last 11 years. I think in general it really only have a shelf life of 1-2 years.
Baking power does last a long time, but 11yrs I would say toss it 4 sure......
Well, there should be an expiration date on the box. Personally, I think that 11 years is way to long to own a box of baking powder. You might want to think about buying a new box.
what can go wrong with it

a combination of dry crystalline compounds

    Test it

put a small amount in a tall glass IN the sink and add some vinegar it will foam overboard

maybe 25 years from now you can toss it $$$$

But remember it also contains baking soda that absorbs odors. ?? :~)

Pssst I keep mine in the freezer %26gt; %26gt; No moisture to begin with.
If cake won't rise you would have to toss all your ingredients and if I were you I would not risk wasting expensive ingredients such as butter and eggs, not to mention your time and effort, for the sake of something as cheap as baking powder. If you are stuck over weekend and cannot find fresh baking powder you can substitute with half amount of baking soda. Sift thoroughly with the flour. Evidently you don't do much baking!
I only buy Baking Powder in small amounts as it usually is no good after 6 to 8 months. It is important you keep is chilled so put it in a container and keep it in the fridge. You will see ta\hat some people think it can last 18 months but you will never get the proper rising in your baking when it has sat that long.

How do you make Chinese 5 spice powder or Ngo Hiong?

    1 tablespoon Ground anise

    1 tablespoon Black peppercorns

    1 tablespoon Ground cinnamon

    1 tablespoon Ground cloves

    1 tablespoon Fennel seeds

Combine the above ingredients in a pepper mill, clean coffee grinder or blender and grind until fine.

    Store in an airtight container.

Five-spice powder is a convenient seasoning for Chinese cuisine, particularly Cantonese cuisine. It incorporates the five basic flavours of Chinese cooking 鈥?sweet, sour, bitter, pungent, and salty. It consists of China Tung Hing cinnamon (actually a type of cassia), powdered cassia buds, powdered star anise and anise seed, ginger root, and ground cloves. Another recipe for the powder consists of cinnamon, black pepper, cloves, fennel seed, and star anise. Szechuan pepper can also be used. It is used in most recipes for Cantonese roasted duck, as well as beef stew.

The formulae are based on the Chinese philosophy of balancing the yin and yang in food. A pinch of the powder goes a long way.

Although this spice is used in restaurant cooking, many Chinese households never use it in day-to-day cooking. In Hawaii some restaurants have it on the table.

A versatile seasoned salt can be easily made by stir-frying common salt with five spice powder under low heat in a dry pan until the spice and salt are well mixed. How do you make Chinese 5 spice powder or Ngo Hiong?

Black powder rocket question right here?

why do people say to grind black powder to make rockets. Isn't it suppose to be powder already. or what?Black powder rocket question right here?
Most rocket fuel for models is in solid form but made of black powder. When it is in the state of a wet sludge, it is compressed into the engine tube, and clay or ceramic nozzle is poured on top. When it is dried it is a solid fuel.

Way back when, they likely did use powder but black powder is very flammable and actually explodes and doesn't burn like modern propellants.

I wouldn't try grinding or smashing up powder. Black powder is sensitive to compression and can explode. Happens during manufacture process in the plants that make it. That's why they make it wet first , dry it in sheet form and granulate after. Roll caps for toy pistols explode because they are compressed minute amounts of very fine black powder. I would just buy the engines and not try making them. Too dangerous.Black powder rocket question right here?
I don't think you'll listen if I tell you to 'stop before you hurt yourself'.

I didn't when I did that as a kid, so lets try to keep you in one piece:

1.Don't even think about trying to grind black powder.

(Even the pro's in industry have accidents doing this and allow for them.)

The charge of a solid fuel rocket must be formed into a single slow

burning grain, or you get a bomb, not a rocket.

To form %26amp; pack your charge, get wood alcohol or another dry, (waterless),

non-polar solvent. Make a thick paste with your powder.

Form that into your charge, and dry it well..

    Inspect the charge carefully.

If there are voids or cracks, it's dangerous.

    Start over.

Use a long fuse or electric ignition and be well back, and behind

something solid when it goes off.

If you HAVE to watch, use a mirror.
The finer the powder the faster it will burn.
    because they just do

Whats better for the face Liquid or Powder foundations?

I have oily/dry skin kinda ofWhats better for the face Liquid or Powder foundations?
The simple answer is if you want more sheer, natural-looking coverage go for a liquid and if you want more matte, concealing coverage go for a powder.

If you have oily skin wear powder because it will absorb the oil. If you have oily skin and you still want to use a liquid foundation, make sure it's oil free (like Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation or MAC Studio Fix).

If you have dry skin wear a liquid because it will add shine and luminosity to your skin and won't wear off.

If you have fine lines or wrinkles don't wear a powder because it gathers in the creases and will make you look older.

Hope this helps :)Whats better for the face Liquid or Powder foundations?
if you have any dryness, please do not use a powder! it settles in the flakiness and shows up as rougher, scratchy patches on your skin.

try and find an oil-control liquid.

    maybelline pure is one option

you can also try one of clinique's liquid foundations. on their website, look for foundations labeled with II, which is a complexion oily in the T-zone, and dry in the cheeks/eyes. some clinique choices:

    1. perfectly real make-up

    2. superbalanced make-up

    3. superfit make-up

    4. stay true make-up

    5. almost make-up

those are all good choices. i have the exact same skin type, and i'm looking at the superbalanced make-up.

    good luck!
I am a huge mineral makeup advocate. It is a powder, and some people don't like that, however just blend a squirt of your facial moisturizer with it for a great liquid foundation that's good for your skin! Traditional liquid foundations have all kinds of nasty ingredients and chemicals, plus most animal test which is just awful.

    I use http://Simply-Minerals.com

It is 100% all natural, chemical free, cruelty free, and vegan!

Does anyone have enfamil lipil formula (powder) free checks or are willing to sell formula for less than $6?

I need enfamil formula. Either checks or willing to sell them for my newborn. In east or south area of san jose.Does anyone have enfamil lipil formula (powder) free checks or are willing to sell formula for less than $6?
If you sign up at Enfamil.com they send you checks, also go to ur local WIC office. THey will help you with formula.Does anyone have enfamil lipil formula (powder) free checks or are willing to sell formula for less than $6?
    Just a recommendation:

Instead of paying for Enfamil, buy the Parent's Choice generic equivalent to Lipil sold at WalMart. It is $11 per large can....less than HALF the price of the real stuff....even better than if you had used those crazy coupons....believe me, I used to try to save up those enfamil ';checks';.....

It is the SAME formula...but it doesn't have as much ';anti-caking agent'; in it, so it tends to clump a little more at the beginning....trust me....no difference, for more than half the price.
if your that hard up for formula, you need to go to WIC. Some food banks also offer formula.
Go to a CVS pharmacy near you and try Bright Beginnings Formula. Its comparable to enfamil and the can of powder is HUGE and lasts a week or two for $18. When it comes to formula your paying for the name.
    call WIC
the target brands are great formulas too for less

How can you tell if White Powder is cocaine or not?

Well, bake with it. If it makes a good cake, it's not cocaine.

Also, try asking your local dealer.

And, pre-lastly, submit it for the cops to check.

Finally, you can get a test for it.

As a leaving note, you could just ask your son.How can you tell if White Powder is cocaine or not?
    Easy

    1. Arrange the unknown powder in very thin lines about 2-3 inches in length. Razor blades and a slick metal plate will help for this task.

    2. Place a straw or similar object in one of your nostrils, and position the straw to one end of the thin lines of powder.

    3. With the straw in place, quickly inhale through your nostrils and allow the powder to enter through your nose.

If you feel any feelings of a high - then the test is Positive, it is indeed Cocaine. If their is no feeling except a burning sensation and sinus pain afterwords, the test is Negative, it might be another substance known as Smarties, which is another street drug popular with grade school/junior high teens. How can you tell if White Powder is cocaine or not?
There are cobalt thiocyanate color-change test kits one can buy. Unfortunately they could be more specific; they react identically to cocaine and PCP. They also react to many substances that are neither, like other anesthetics ending in -caine, several antihistamines, pentobarbital, quinine, Ritalin, and meth. In other words, it can prove your white powder is not cocaine, but it can't prove that it is.
    sniff it and see
    Eat it!
ask a cop to test it for you

Is 14 too young to wear powder on your face?

no it's not too young, but if your skin is still clear then i would suggest just using a moisturizer. it'll help your skin a lot better than foundation will. but if you still want foundation, i would greatly suggest bare minerals. it is on the expensive side, but it's very healthy for your skin. just look it up on google and go to their site. then have tons of before and after pics that will convince you and your mom that it's a good choice. i kno ulta carries it, but i think you can also order it online.

:]Is 14 too young to wear powder on your face?
At 14 you should have such great skin that you only need a moisturizer. Don't ruin your skin by covering it up with too much stuff too young.

I suggest using a good moisturizer with sun protection in it, go light with eyeliner and mascara, and wash your face nightly. Too many young woman overdo their makeup and lose their youthful beauty. Is 14 too young to wear powder on your face?
powder, as in foundation or cover-up?

No it's not too young at all, but only use it if you need it, because if you don't need it and you use it, it will clog your pores...

and also, if you do need it and you end up using it, use is sparingly, or else everyone can see it and you'll look stupid. =]

    good luck.
Well, I'm homeschooled. I wore translucent powder at 14, foundation powder at 16, and at 17 wore liquid foundation.

I don't think you're too young, but I'd suggest going to the mall and getting some lady at the cosmetic counter too help you find the right shade!
like make up? not really, no, but be prepared to have to constantly wash it off or you will get zits... and also if you think it is really necessary, people will start to get used to how it looks so you can't really go back..
I think that you should enjoy your youthful skin while it lasts. What makes you want to wear it right now?

I honestly didn't start to wear powder until I was 20. Now I don't go a day without it. My skin isn't like it used to be. It's not BAD, but it's oily and powder is the only way to de-shine.
no i dont think its too young. you can do how you feel and if your using it too look tanner or to cover up blemmishes then its okay. just make sure you can see the line from your face and your neck, just blend it in really well if your going to use it.
lots f my frindez are 14 and they wear powder but i think it just damages the skin spiceally if you have got a baby skin, it also causes black spots but if you used creams for skin care to remove the powder ,you won't have to worry alot!!
No. My Granddaughter is 10 and for the last year I have shown her how to put on light amounts of a very pale base makeup to lighten her freckles.

By fourteen I would think you could wear lip gloss and very pale blush and light powder or base makeup..
could be too young. depends on the child. Is she mature. Your call but she's going to wear it sometime. And if you don't watch it, she will behind your back. So, I would say...go ahead and let her,,,,14 is right there on that borderline
Sapphire, why don't you ask your mom to take you to a makeup department %26amp; both of you can learn. Girls need to know about makeup.
I'm not sure if there's an age to wear powder, but I have to say, if you don't put it on right it just looks funny. I would never wear it, and I'm 14.
Powder And Foundation Are Two Different Things..I Think 14 is enough to wear Powder but its not enough to wear Foundation on your Face
I think that every girl should just wear nothing on their face. People like it when your skin looks natural. And covering it in powders and eyeliner is not cute, it's skanky.
well, no but dont ware a lot because it will look tacky!!

when you ware powder on your face you might want to ware blush also to give it a little color!!

    hope i helped

    鈾enna
Yes, everyone does in my class, but really YES it makes spots or whatever stand out because it all droops around it! you only need it when your, like, 35 really i think!
no theres like 11 year olds wearing it round here, just get the right colour for your face so you dont look like a slut, and dont put too much on
No its not too young. Powder is very light and not as heavy as foundation is.
yeah. its definetly not too young. i started wearing makeup when i was 12 yrs old. just DONT start wearing TOO MUCH makeup or else you might be called a s**t or a w***e
dont wear foundation!!!! you get MAJOR acne! it's horrible for your skin! just stick to concelear
    14, gosh no

ive been wearing powder on my face ever since I was like ten.
no. i 14 and i wear 2 different types of foundation, and powder
it depends on the maturity level of the person wearing it.
No, I wore it when I was 14. Most people I know start at about 12.
NO...........IF U HAVE FACE PROBLEMS...U SHOULD BUT N A WAY AS LONG AS ITS NOT LYKE A WAY DIFFERENT COLOR LYKE DARK BROWN OR SOMETHING....ITS COLL BUT JUSS DON'T PACK IT ALL ON UR FACE!!:)
yeah you propably dont need it most women use it for wrinkles
i think its up to you enjoy your life the way you want.
no way im 14 and have worn powder makeup since i was 12 no damage done
    No.

Who has used American beauty mineral powder?

what do you think they sell it at kohl s with Ashley Judd

I heard it is pretty good..

This line i think is a sister company to estee lauder did you ever here that too??Who has used American beauty mineral powder?
I'm a beauty specialist at Kohl's and the American Beauty mineral powder is extremely light. They oxidize a little bit so I'd recommend getting a shade lighter than your normal foundation color. For the most part, they're yellow based but are so sheer, they'll work for cool as well depending on the depth of your undertones. They do contain bismuth oxychloride which many mineral powders carry but also many people have been known to react to. If you're looking for medium to heavier coverage such as acne scarring, pigmentation, etc. make sure you use a concealer because this is almost like a setting powder because of the sheerness but it is very good for skin because it won't clog pores, there are no fragrances and they are made by the Estee Lauder companies.Who has used American beauty mineral powder?
It's actually pretty good and light. I liked it. And yes they are a sister company to Estee Lauder, just like Clinique. MAC, Bobbi Brown, and a bunch of other companies.

Do you know a good face powder to cover the zits and pimples?

I found one. i know it works cause it hides the redness i get on my face. i have fair sensetive skin, in the summer i burn never tan, in winter i am a naturl pale goth. but this loreal true match covered the redness compleatly. oh ya but i dont ware foundation at all never have and never will..if u do thats maybe y u cant cover it up.. foundation adds to the irritation n stuff.. hope it works for u..Do you know a good face powder to cover the zits and pimples?
A powder foundation is going to give you more coverage than a loose or pressed powder but you will still have that powder feel. I don't have any specific brand suggestions.Do you know a good face powder to cover the zits and pimples?
Piece of advice for your pimple, try ice bag for your pimple everytime you have a free time or before you sleep put it as much as you can tolorate the coldness,I've been using it or freeze pieces of cucumber and put them on your pimple and another thing don't use soap at all if you can just wash more often water only will do, to cover up zits try Max factor foundation.
There is a Dual Coverage Powder Foundation from Mary Kay that works great! Mary Kay also has great products to help with the skin care, and with zits and pimples. Email me or go to my website for more information!
MAC blot powder is great. It's meant to cover oily areas. The best product is actually a blemish concealer by Bobbi brown. It's got salicylic acid and actaully treats the blemishes on top of covering them.
Mac Studio Fix is probably one of the best brands out there but it is 25.00 dollars but believe me it is worth it

OH GOD YES. You should have been doing this anyway! Make it happen!! Protein + slow-digesting carbs = so much win!

Lasers of sufficient power to do real damage require a power source too large to be portable. The military is experiementing with laser weapons but they are still pretty large. Unless we come up with a pretty radical new form of energy, ray guns will still just be in the movies. Why are people still using gun powder based weapons?
At this point to inefficient and not cost effective to use if they exist
Gun powder is reliable and efficient. Laser weaponry is not being used because A. the people that have it dont want anyone else to know. B. The weaponry has not been fine tuned, thus to incorporate such weaponry would be very difficult. I think by now we should have every soldier with a laser rifle, but America just hasnt made that leap yet.

  • My rose bush has a white powder on it?

I have noticed that some new leafs have a kinda white powder on them. What is that ? is the bush sick or is that normal? My rose bush has a white powder on it?
it is definitly powdery mildew.i product I love using for roses and clematis is orthenex systemic insecticide and fungicide.I use it as a preventitive for most of problems that arise with roses.i start spraying when the roses start getting full leaves and every two weeks until September.Boy do my roses love me for that.!!!You just have to be careful not to spray in the heat of the day better in evening.and not on windy daysGood Luck!!!My rose bush has a white powder on it?
This is a disease called powdery mildew. It's quite common on roses along with black spot. Make sure the rose bush is in full sun with good air circulation. There are many good fungicides to use to combat this disease; I think the best one is made by Ortho and is called Funginex. It contains Triforine. You need to spray weekly for at least three weeks. If you're a strictly organic grower, there are organic fungicides, or you can make your own with baking soda. Mix two tablespoons of baking soda with water and spray on the leaves. You will probably have to spray more often, but it is organic. However, if the roses don't have AT LEAST a half day of full sun and don't have good air circulation (for example, they shouldn't be planted in a corner or in a walled in area), you will be fighting these problems all season long.

    I hope this information helps.
Powdery Mildew! If you want to save the plant perhaps you can contact your local extension office for the best product for your area. In the future try looking for disease resistant roses that grow well in your area until you are a more experienced gardener. I made the same mistakes when I started gardening. If I thought it was beautiful I bought strictly on looks.

When you water your plants try to get water just on the roots or base of the plants. Always try to avoid watering the foliage.

A rose is not always a rose!

Why can't you use baby powder on babies anymore?

I think I read something a long time ago that you couldn't use it on babies anymore ... especially baby girls .... but I have a baby boy, and in this heat I think it would help keep his nether regions dry if i could use some powder on him.Why can't you use baby powder on babies anymore?
Powder can cause breathing problems and serious lung damage when inhaled, and it's not always easy to keep the powder out of the air where your baby might breathe it. Talc-based powders have small, easily inhaled particles. Cornstarch, which has larger, coarser particles, is not as easily inhaled as talc.If you wish to use powder, choose the safer cornstarch-based product. Shake the powder into your hand, away from your baby, never directly on or near him.Why can't you use baby powder on babies anymore?
They say it because they breathe it in. And also because TALC can cause infertility for girls...but baby powder w/o talc does not carry this risk.
It's proven to irritate the baby's sensitive skin. Ask it's doctor before you do!
I hear baby girls can get utis from regular baby powder as well as everything else people are responding with.
Try some regular cornstarch the kind you get out the super market. Works just as well with no risk or irritation or inhaling toxic talc.
the whole thing is talc powder is bad for the lungs, as long as you get the cornstarch based kind [most brands sell the cornstarch based] then its totally safe and fine. i use it on brody all the time. diaper rash creams tend to make his rashes worse so i always use powder.
They were worried about the babies inhaling it when its poured on. If you pour it into your hand and then onto your baby its fine. Babies need it sometimes.
If you do, Make sure to ask your doctor first because it can cause rashes or irritate the skin and it can make the skin too dry and there are many other things that can be caused by baby powder. make sure to ask your doctor first. I hope this helps,

    *we have a radical god!*
Baby powder can irritate sensitive baby skin. But, more importantly, that puff of powder that you send into the air when you shake the bottle can be inhaled by your baby and the powder can really irritate the baby's sensitive lungs...which could potentially lead to pneumonia.
I don't use it. I don't like those particles getting in my baby's nose and lungs.
You can use baby powder. However, don't shake it around the baby's head because inhaling powder can be harmful for lungs, particularly an infant with respiratory problems already. Shake it into your hand and then smooth on baby. Don't shake directly on baby.

Doesn't matter which one you use. Your preference. Cornstarch can make a yeast infection worse. In either case, keep powder out of baby's reach or don't get it.
i don't think it is recommended for really young babies. My son is 6 mths and he has been getting a little chaffed down there in this hot humid weather, so I use baby powder at every bum change. We use cloth diapers too, and I can't use greasy creams, so baby powder works for us!
i used it a couple of times on logan. i put it in my hand and then put it on him. I used the Corn Starch kinds though

They says that babies inhale it and it is harmful for the lungs.

Baby from the Harajuku Lovers range is spot on baby powder.

The smell you *probably* like in Baby powder is rose. Rose is a complex set of aromatics and many people associate its smell with softness, comfort, tenderness, warmth often because of that baby powder link.

If you do like baby powder, you may find you are attracted to some other rose based scents.

Is talc that's found in powder foundation really hazardous to health?

I recently read somewhere that talc could cause lung cancer...Is that true? My other choice would be foundation that contains parabens, which are suspected to cause breast cancer...It seems all creams, shampoos, makeup contain all these weird stuff...Is talc that's found in powder foundation really hazardous to health?
I work for the American Cancer Society. Here's some info about all those things. :) Also, if you're concerned about talc or parabens or anything, you can always look for companies that make products without those. Hope that helps.

    ';It has been suggested that talcum powder may be carcinogenic to the covering layer of the ovaries through the migration of talcum powder particles (applied to the genital area, sanitary napkins, diaphragms, or condoms) through the vagina, uterus, and fallopian tubes to the ovary. Several epidemiologic studies have examined the relationship between talcum powder and cancer of the ovary. Findings are mixed, with some studies reporting a slightly increased risk and some reporting no association.';

    ';No increased risk of human lung cancer has been reported in association with the use of cosmetic talcum powder. Although some studies of talc miners and millers have suggested an increased risk of lung cancer and other respiratory diseases, others found no increase in lung cancer risk. And the industrial grade talc to which such workers are exposed contains varying amounts of silica and asbestos, unlike the purified talc sold to consumers. One study of pottery workers exposed to silica dust and nonasbestiform talc showed an excess risk of lung cancer, while other studies of occupational talc exposure have not found an increased risk. While experimental evidence suggests that some forms of silica may cause cancer in animals, observational studies in humans are not conclusive. ';

This talks about parabens (in the info about antiperspirants), antiperspirants, aspartame.

http://www.cancer.org/docroot/PED/PED_1_…Is talc that's found in powder foundation really hazardous to health?
Heres the thing. Most of the 'bad' ingredients in makeup are bad for you, yes, but not nessesarily in theform they are in makeup. Like talc and that sort of thing can cause cancer if you seriously inhale it. Applied to your face, it's probably not going to do much damage. And yes, parabens can mimic estrogen in the body, which is why they are believed to be linked to breast cancer. It's a simple fact that chemicals aren't good for your body, and usually, once we find out just how harmful these sorts of things are, it's too late.

So is it a good idea to use tons and tons of synthetic products? No, so get into the habit of reading labels, and choosing brands which use fewer chemicals (there are LOTS of brands now that are all or mostly organic/naturally sourced, and that don't contain as many chemicals. Even 'regular' drugstore brands like Aveeno have really good moisturizers with only 6 or 7 ingredients in them.) If your favourite, can't-live-without-it foundation contains parabens, choose moisturizers, eyeshadows, eyeliners, etc that don't (they exist, trust me! Parabens are in alot of things, but not everything). If you aren't picky about your shampoo, choose an organic one. Make healthier choices where and when you can. But between makeup and cell phones and pollution and fatty foods, something is going to give you cancer eventually, you know what I mean? I think we need to be responsible about the products we use and the food we eat, but there's also alot that's out of our immediate control.
It's extremely hazardous. About 79% of talc is made up of magnesium silicate, and it's structure and molecular size has been compared to asbestos, and like asbestos, it can cause lung problems. Talc also contains starch with causes irritation by blocking the pores. Another irritant used is mica, which can cause permanent lung damage if inhaled.

Parabens are also very hazardous. The only way to be safe with talc and products containing talc and/or parabens, such as foundations and face powders, is to use a Certified Organic product.

Where can you buy Whole Milk Powder?

    Hi,

Does anyone know where I can buy 'Whole Milk Powder'?

Thanks :)Where can you buy Whole Milk Powder?
There is no such thing as whole milk that is powdered. When powdered milk is made they remove the fats.

Only non-fat, or skim milk is made into powdered milk. Fats are not very stable, and do not have a long shelf life. Fats go rancid quickly.

So to avoid powdered milk going rancid, the fats have been removed.

Baby formula is of course the only exception. Infants and toddlers MUST have the fats for proper brain growth/development.

If you wish to stock up on a powdered milk product with the best taste and a stable shelf life, then ';Morning Moo'; is THE top product.

Here's a link to their web site:

    http://www.moosmilk.com/

It is made in the U.S.A., but I know of several folks from the U.K. who have ordered it, and simply love it.

I live in the U.S.A. I have about two years food storage in my pantry (for three adults). I know a great deal about powdered milks. I'm what most people would consider to be a food storage expert. I'm telling you this last bit so you can judge for yourself if you care to take my advice.

Even though we live on a farm and have our own milk goats, I have about 100 pounds of powdered milk in our pantry.

';Leave the kid have a childhood';?!?! - besides the bad grammar, you have no idea what you're talking about.

So should she just stop allowing her son to eat pasta, meat, rice and beans? Certainly not!

Anyone that cares to read up on modern foods and development knows that our natural food sources are deficient in vitamins, minerals, AND proteins.

Good question to ask- and know he would only grow 'taller' if his genes are pre-wired that way. It is VITAL these days to incorporate supplementation to our diets because of my earlier point.

Here's your answer: ANY protein shake will do. 3 of the best I have studied up on are 1)Colostrum Protein shakes (any brand) 2)HYDROLYZED Whey protein, Whey protein ISOLATE and 3)Egg Protein (albumen)

Whatever you do, AVOID ALL ';SOY'; products for your boy. Soy is a natural estrogen inhibitor, you don't want him 10feet fall and I'm sure you don't want him to develop 'man breasts'. Same thing with plastic tupperware, avoid it at all costs, use glass and don't microwave with plastic containers, the plastic release carbon chemicals that act as estrogen inhibitors also.

-Lots of brown rice WITH beans (makes a complete protein meal, all essential and non-essential amino acids)

-Plenty of organic goats or cows milk, greek yogurt (very delicious if he likes cream cheese or sour cream, YOU will LOVE greek or 'strained' yogurt)

-Red and sweet potatoes twice more than average consumption of white potatoes

-Organic Turkey bacon (avoid swine bacon as much as you can)

-Test your water for ph balance, you must not drink anything under 7.0ph -keep him Alkaline

.................list of the things can go on, but you are on the right track to get him started with a good protein or 'meal' shake. :)Trying to find a good protein powder for my 12 year old boy. something healthy. He is super athletic.. HELP?

Are you talking about cocoa power? Here's my favorite cookie recipe:

    1 cup unsweetened cocoa powder

    2 cups white sugar

    1/2 cup vegetable oil

    4 eggs

2 tsp vanilla (I never put that much in, I just add to taste)

    2 cups all-purpose flour

    2 teaspoons baking powder

    1/2 teaspoon salt

    1/2 cup powdered sugar

In a medium bowl, mix together cocoa, white sugar, and vegetable oil. Beat in eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla. Combine the flour, baking powder, and salt; stir into the cocoa mixture. Cover dough, and chill for at least 4 hours. Or, you can freeze for one hour to speed things up.

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Line cookie sheets with parchment paper or spray with nonstick spray. Roll dough into one inch balls. Coat each ball in powdered sugar before placing onto prepared cookie sheets.

Bake in preheated oven for 10 to 12 minutes. Let stand on the cookie sheet for a minute before transferring to wire racks to cool.

Pick it up the minute the dog goes.

It's perfectly normal for dogs to eat their stool (And other dogs, and cats)I need help. How do you get a dog to quit eating their stool. We have tried the pills and the powder.?
I've already had a best answer on this one, but....

A LOT OF DOGS DO THIS...it is not new and they will eventually grow out of it. The best you can do is to clean up your dog's ';area'; everyday and sprinkle some cayenne/red pepper powder on his stool. He'll start to avoid it and it won't hurt him any. My german shepherd/black lab was doing this and we didn't know it until he became ill from it and we took him to the vet.I need help. How do you get a dog to quit eating their stool. We have tried the pills and the powder.?
smack that fella right away when he/she picks them up n say 'NO!' ..be watchful n repeat a few times, should work..good luck!
Something that works well with dogs is adding a little meat tenderizor to their food- it gives the stool an unpleasant taste.

Also keep your yard as clean as possible. Pick up as soon as the dogs ';business'; is done. It's gross but this is what they do to mask their odour sometimes. Hope this helps :)
the best way would be to not give them the chance to eat get it away from them befor they have the chance
I had the same question a few years ago and asked a vet. This is what he said to do.

sprinkle some cyan pepper in his food...

That sure stopped Mikki from eating hers...

    Good Luck!
Take the dog out on a leash and correct it every time it starts to head for a mess. We use a ';no dirt'; command here at the shelter.

Be more diligent about cleaning up the dog's messes immediately so it doesn't have a chance to spot them or feast on them.
Stick with the FOR-BID powder. Use it for 5-7 days (1/2 a pack twice a day)....takes time to get through their system. Then you can start backing it off to once a day for a few days.

Someone had suggested if you get ACCENT (in the spice isle), it will give you the same results as DETER (another powder for this problem).
acidophiles yogurt is meant to be awsome a teaspoon on the food a day. when they eat stools its meant to mean they are lacking something in there diet .

    Baking Soda.

Baking powder contains an acid to make it rise, it also sometimes contains corn starch which will just scum up the water. However it can work in a pinchDo I soak my baby's butt in baking soda or baking powder?
Just use a zinc and castor oil cream which is soothing and be sure the nappy rash isn't fungal because then you will need to use an anti fungal cream which you can pick up at the pharmacy. The cream will act a s a barrier and help the skin heal will your child is wearing a nappy.
None of that. The best thing for diaper rash is vagisil. It works wonders. Your baby will be fine by the next day. That's what best works for my son.

Is there a liquid or powder product that will make my toilet flush more efficiently?

try 2000 flushes. Is there a liquid or powder product that will make my toilet flush more efficiently?
Not to diminish your Q, but efficiency begins in the tank, with the ';Guts'; of the process.

If there is a blockage issue or a slow/inefficient FLUSH issue, it's a relatively easy fix, without adding more pollutants to the environment.

Check the mechanisms to determine water level in the tank,,, being sufficient. Check that the FLAPPER, or other mechanism blocking the immediate drain opening, remains open long enough to actually allow the prescribed amount of water to accomplish a FULL FLUSH. If all that seems intact, decide that it might be blockage in the toilet itself,,,IE: the P trap type curving of the drain opening in the appliance, before it gets to the Drain opening.

Which is better whey protein powder or food proteen for someone who wanna ger rid of body fat and build muscle

Between the two, whole food proteins always wins out. The only exception is immediately before and after workouts.

Whey protein is a fast uptake protein that is quickly absorbed by the body. This means that all of it's quickly available after consuming. Whole food proteins are more ';time released'; since it takes them longer for the body to break down. Fast uptake is great for before workouts to help reduce the catabolic effects, and after a workout for quick recovery, but not so great other times of the day.

For mornings and before bedtime, a mixed protein source is best (a mix of egg, whey and casein proteins for example). During the day, lean whole protein sources are the best (fish, chicken, lean beef, etc.). These give the body a more constant supply of protein to use.

    Edit:

The answerer below is actually incorrect about this but in his answer does not contradict my answer - look at any of the research done on different protein sources and the conclusion is the same; different protein sources are absorbed by the body at different rates. This is called the Biological Value of protein. Casein has a low BV, meaning it's absorbed much slower due to the micellar molecular structure of the protein. The same goes for chicken, beef and other whole sources. Egg whites have a slightly higher BV, and whole eggs have the highest BV of the natural sources (100).

Whole foods must travel through the small intestines to be completely broken down, which is what gives them the ';slow released'; effect, but little of it is actually ';destroyed'; (i'm not sure where that info comes from that whole protein sources are more ';destroyed'; than refined powders, I'd like to see the scientific article suggesting this). It's true that often an excess of protein is excreted, but sometimes it's converted to glycogens depending on the activity level of the person. This is an even better argument for whole food sources as fast uptake will be filtered out more since more of it becomes available all at once in the body - whole sources are more slowly released at a more constant rate, at a rate the can be used by the body at any one time and over a longer period of time.

Mixed proteins usually contain milk proteins (a combination of casein and whey), egg proteins and even soy proteins, and are optimal for mornings and before bedtime as it gives a mix of fast and slow uptake proteins.

Whey proteins, on the other hand, are a very high BV protein that essentially skips the small intestines and is mostly absorbed through the stomach, which allows it to hit the blood stream and muscles much more quickly and all at once, skipping much of the digestive process. This is why it's great for before and after workouts (giving the body what it needs immediately) but not so great at other times.Which is better whey protein powder or food proteen for someone who wanna ger rid of body fat and build muscle
A mix of supplemental whey protein and casein protein (derived from eggs) are the two best proteins for building muscle. It is best to get these proteins from supplements because, unlike in food, the protein in supplements has been refined and is easily aborbed by your body. The digestive system does not time release food proein like the previous answer suggests. Instead, your stomach acid and liver destroy most of the protein that you consume before your body can aborb it. Supplemental protein is much easier for the body to absorb and, thus, a much greater amount is absorbed prior to the digestive system destroying it.

In my opinion, the best protien supplement out there in terms of taste and effectiveness is muscle milk- http://www.supplementsoutlet.com/cytospo鈥?/a>

Does anybody have a good nice and spicy chicken curry recipe using powder spices if possible thank you?

    gimme 10 !!

    Serves: 4

    Cooking time (approx.): 28 minutes

    Style: Indian Non-Vegetarian

    3 tablespoon(s) oil

    2 onion(s) grated

    2 tablespoon(s) garlic paste

    1 teaspoon(s) ginger paste

1 cup(s) yoghurt beaten till smooth

2 tomatoes grated or finely chopped

    1 teaspoon(s) red chilli powder

    2 teaspoon(s) coriander powder

    1 teaspoon(s) cumin powder

    陆 teaspoon(s) turmeric powder

salt and freshly milled pepper to taste

12 medium pieces (about 800 grams) of chicken

    1 cup(s) hot water

1 teaspoon(s) curry powder or hot spice mix (garam masala) powder

finely chopped fresh coriander to garnish

Heat the oil in a heavy bottomed saucepan. Add the onions and fry for about 4 minutes or till rich golden brown.

Add the ginger-garlic paste and fry briefly till the raw smell goes away. Add the tomatoes and the yoghurt stirring briskly to avoid curdling. Fry for about 4 minutes or till oil separates.

Mix in the red chilli powder, coriander powder, cumin powder, turmeric powder, salt and pepper to taste. Increase the heat and add the chicken pieces. Fry for about 5 minutes or till the chicken is lightly browned.

Add the hot water and mix well. Bring to a boil. Cover and cook on very low heat for about 15 minutes or till chicken is well cooked and the oil has separated. Sprinkle the curry powder or hot spice mix (garam masala) and cover tightly for about 10-15 minutes for the aroma to blend well in the curry.

Serve hot garnished with coriander leaves.

    TIPS:

Using clarified butter (ghee) makes this dish more flavorful.

Boneless chicken can be also used for this recipe. Reduce or halve the weight of chicken if using boneless. Rest of the ingredients remain the same. Reduce the cooking time of chicken.

Keep some extra amount of hot water ready if more gravy is desired. Does anybody have a good nice and spicy chicken curry recipe using powder spices if possible thank you?

    This is REALLY REALLY good:

2 pounds boneless skinless chicken breasts, cut into 1/2-inch chunks

1 teaspoon salt and pepper, or to taste

    1 1/2 tablespoons vegetable oil

    4 tablespoons curry powder

    1/2 onion, thinly sliced

    2 cloves garlic, crushed

1 (14 ounce) can coconut milk

1 (14.5 ounce) can stewed, diced tomatoes

1 (8 ounce) can tomato sauce

    3 tablespoons sugar

    Serves 6.

Season chicken pieces with salt and pepper.

Heat oil and curry powder in a large skillet over medium-high heat for two minutes. Stir in onions and garlic, and cook 1 minute more. Add chicken, tossing lightly to coat with curry oil. Reduce heat to medium, and cook for 7 to 10 minutes, or until chicken is no longer pink in center and juices run clear.

Pour coconut milk, tomatoes, tomato sauce, and sugar into the pan, and stir to combine. Cover and simmer, stirring occasionally, approximately 30 to 40 minutes.

What is a good balck powder gun that i can get at a store?

must be under $200. must be a rifleWhat is a good balck powder gun that i can get at a store?
CVA is a good one, i have 2 of them, my 1st was an Apollo stainless steel with no 11 primers and loaded with 90 grains of pyrodex, fairly accurate to 100 yards. i have upgraded to a magbolt that uses 209 shotgun primers and 150 grains of pyrodex pellets pushing a 240 grain 44caliber powerbilt bullet. It gives me more velocity, has a closed breech so no rain or water can get in, it's much like a bolt action rifle and it is fairly accurate out to around 150 yards, atleast thats as far as i've ever shot at anything. Both rifles are 50 caliber but I shoot the 44mag caliber bullet with a sabot. I highly reccomend you go with a 209 primer shotgun primer also as i have never had one misfire when using it.

Check out wal-mart and also with a muzzleloader being considered a primitive weapon, they can be had over the internet without an FFL in most states.

    also check www.gunbroker.com

just remember one thing when you get it, is if you shoot it you gotta clean it as soon as possible, thats means same day or atleast within 48 hrs as blackpowder is very corrosive and will begin to eat your barrell right away,.

when you sight it in after every shot you will need to swab the bore then when your done you will need to break it completely down, clean it good and use a good anti seize grease on the breech plug, they can be a lot of fun and extend your hunting season by a couple weeks, So Good Luck, and be careful not to exceed the manufacture reccomended power load. What is a good balck powder gun that i can get at a store?
first off dont buy a new one go to a gun shop and buy a good used one that uses shotgun primers doesnt mater what brand and go shot it you can usaly pick one up for under a 100 $ that way if you dont like it your not out a lot of money you can always resell it
Just go for a Thompson Center then. Though i would highly suggest using 2f powder along with musket caps instead of no.11s. Deer hunting right?
Get a CVA WOLF 50 cal. i think they run about $150

I mix mine with a 1/2 cup of skim milk, 1/2 cup of OJ, sometimes a half banana, and a splenda. You can also add fresh berries or your favorite fruit.. You want to put ot in the blender with a few ice cubes. It's real good. What can i mix with the vanilla flavoured body fortress whey protein powder?
I drink a Vanilla Ice Cream Flavored Shake twice a day as part of my ';No Diet Weight Loss Plan'; ... It taste great buy it self but I like to add frozen fruit (your choice of fruit) in with mine and blend it up ... A friend of mine does the same thing but also adds a couple of ice cubes to make it into a smoothie
add some choclate because it's a stronger flavour and some sugar, and drink it as fast as you can, although i advice you to never mix it with any juice

    How much baking soda/baking powder?

Hey everyone! I am a vegan baker and I bake and cook a lot. I have a question on how to determine how much baking soda/ baking powder to use in a cake or in anything? Is there like a baking formula? I would love to create my own recipes but don't know where to start? Is determing baking soda/ baking powder just trial and error? How much baking soda/baking powder?
While making a cake, I would say put in 1 teaspoon of baking soda. Baking soda and baking powder are two different things:

Baking soda is basic and will yield a bitter taste unless countered by the acidity of another ingredient, such as buttermilk. Baking powder contains both an acid and a base and has an overall neutral effect in terms of taste. Recipes that call for baking powder often call for other neutral-tasting ingredients, such as milk. Baking powder is more common in cakes and biscuits.

Not a lot of recipe's ever call for more than 1 teaspoon. Some recipes call for half and half, it just depends.

What I would do is go on google and search for cake recipes. Maybe even specify vegan cake recipes. Just to get general ideas, but Creating your own recipes is sort of a thing of the past since everything has really already been made. How much baking soda/baking powder?
Well first, you need to know when to use which. Baking soda requires an acid to produce the gases that cause rising. So the recipe would need to include buttermilk, sour milk, lemon juice, or something along those lines. Baking powder is baking soda with cream of tartar, so it already has an acid. Double acting baking powder produces gasses twice..once when combined with liquid, and once when introduced to heat.

Using your example of a cake, most scratch recipes will need 2 tsp of baking powder. Some require 1 1/2 tsp each of baking powder and baking soda. The type of cocoa you use will effect the type of leavening you use as well. Regular cocoa will work with baking soda, but Dutched cocoa, which is alkalized, needs either baking powder or a mixture of both.

Your best bet is to start with established recipes until you learn the basics, then begin making changes until you're confident enough to create a recipe of your own.
If you're baking something that contains an acid (wine, juice, vinegar, etc), use baking soda (about 1 tsp. per 12 servings). If you're baking something with no acid, use 1.5 tsp baking powder, or 1 tsp. baking powder and either a) 2 tsp. white wine vinegar, or b) 1 tsp. cream of tartar per 12 servings. (Double for a recipe that yields 24 servings).

It's kind of trial and error, because the heaviness of the ingredients plays a big factor. The reason for using baking soda at all is that, when combined with an acid, it produces gas (for the same effect as yeast, which produces carbon dioxide to leaven the bread). Using baking soda in a recipe with no acid will produce a chewy cracker, essentially, because the gas-producing chemical reaction will not occur. Baking powder is just baking soda and cream of tartar, premixed.

~These measurements are approximate, and are what I use when I bake. They are by no means right for every recipe.
to make self raising flour from plain flour, use 1/2tsp bicarb soda %26amp; 1tsp baking powder to every kilogram of flour used
when you cut cocain, you usually do a half and half measurement to double your quantity...at least that's what I heard on tv
