I want to cook pancake now, I can't find my baking powder, but I found cream of tartar, can I replace the baking powder with cream tartar? Anyway, what is cream tartar use for. I'm not in town, so it's uneasy for me to go out just to buy baking powder, and I'm so craving of pancake now. Thanks
I don't have baking powder now, can I use cream of tartar instead?

* 1 teaspoon baking soda
* 2 teaspoons cream of tartar
* 1 teaspoon corn starch (optional)I don't have baking powder now, can I use cream of tartar instead?
Baking Powder
Ingredients:
1/3 cup baking soda
2/3 cup cream of tartar
2/3 cup arrowroot starch OR potato starch
Instructions:
1. Blend ingredients.
2. Store in airtight container.
3. Use as an equal replacement for commercial baking powder.
* If you have those ingredients handy try that instead of the baking soda that you can't easily seem to go and just pick up any then. IF not there is not any recipe I've found that has the baking powder out.
No, you can't replace baking powder with cream of tartar. Cream of tartar is an acid and needs to react with baking soda to create CO2, which will cause your baked goods to rise. Like the other people who answered said, you can add it as long as you add baking soda, also.
this is a good website for this kind of stuff:
